Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies for the Switch-to-Electric incentives?
Homes that use oil, natural gas or propane for heating or water heating are eligible.
What equipment is eligible for the Switch-to-Electric incentives?
HVAC and water heating equipment that run on fossil fuels (oil, propane and natural gas) are eligible through the Switch-to-Electric Program.
Do I have to completely remove my fossil fuel heat source?
No, the Switch-to-Electric Program is offering lower incentives for doing “partial” fuel switching by going to a hybrid heat pump system (a heat pump that retains your fossil fuel heat as a back-up heat source).
How do I take advantage of the new Switch-to-Electric incentives through the Home Performance Program?
Step 1: Schedule a home energy audit with a participating contractor. Discuss your opportunities with the Energy Auditor who conducts the service.
Step 2: After receiving your report with recommended energy-efficient home improvements, work with one of our participating contractors to evaluate which systems would work best for your needs.
How do I take advantage of the Switch-to-Electric incentives for HVAC equipment and heat pump water heaters?
Contact a participating HVAC contractor for further details on available incentives to enjoy energy savings for your home. Equipment must be installed by a participating HVAC contractor to be eligible.
My home may need electrical upgrades. Does the Switch-to-Electric Program offer incentives to assist with these?
Yes, Potomac Edison is offering up to $3,000 to assist homeowners with qualifying electrical upgrades (called “Make-Ready” incentives). This may include electrical panel upgrades, new electrical circuits, additional outlets and disconnects, and more.
How do I know if the electrical upgrades I need will qualify for the “Make-Ready” incentives?
Our participating contractors know which upgrades qualify for these incentives. Contact a participating contractor for more information.
Discounts are available to Maryland residential customers of Potomac Edison on qualified products purchased through December 31, 2026.
